The film seemed a lot more researched and heartfelt. Selena prevails and does perform 'Looking for a New Love' in Mexico.

In all honestly if you are hesitant I say give it a try, but you will likely be disappointed in this series and a bit upset. TEXAS PROUD: ‘Selena: The Series’ brings Tejano culture to Netflix and the world. ? I will debate on continuing to watch Part 2. Based on the life of the late Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla, Netflix's Selena series was developed for TV by Moiss Zamora. Sadly, she too gets drowned out by Abraham’s overbearing personality. Selena in the series seemed very brushed off sadly. The Selena cast is led by Christian Serratos, but the Netflix series features actors and actresses from several popular TV shows. That leaves Selena, the marquee star of what Netflix has described as a coming-of-age story. Netflix’s Selena: The Series is based on life of 80s icon Selena Quintanilla. It was just overall disappointing from the main character. The rest of the cast however did good overall, the show felt like it gave the families perspective more which I did enjoy.

Unfortunately it was very hard to look past her acting and bad lip syncing at times. The 1997 movie Selena went on to become one of the best movies about musicians’ careers and bandsnot to mention one of Jennifer Lopez’s best movies.Over a decade later, we revisit the legacy of singer Selena Quintanilla in the new Netflix show, Selena: the Series. I also feel like Christian Serratos was just not a good fit for this role, not just on her lack of appearance to Selena, but her over all performance seemed unstudied.
I was rooting for the success of this show, but i was left disappointed. And I won't even begin to get into all the details of the bad costuming and dollar store wigs in this series.

And when comparing this to the 1997 Jennifer Lopez breakout film, that film felt more heartfelt then the show. Mexican-American singer Selena and her family work hard and rise to fame in the Tejano music world, navigating challenges along the way. Selena felt like a supporting character throughout the series. This show sadly felt very half-assed, unemotional, and uninspiring. As a huge Selena fan, I grew up watching her real interviews and performances all my life and following her life and aftermath closely. Honestly this series was very disappointing.
